Great meetings and hot yoga

I had a GREAT meeting with a friend who runs her own PR company last night to talk about the dog tees. She's amazing. Obviously really really good at what she does. Right off the bat, as soon as I told her about the conept and the look she had a million great ideas about how to promote and the tees and me : ) This is exactly what I need, someone who can think along these lines for me. One of the scariest things about trying to start my own business is feeling like I have to wear all these different hats - designer, writer, business person, accountant, marketing and PR person. It's nice to know that I can tap into the knowledge of someone else. It's also nice to know that there are all these people out there who are willing to help me, friends offering their dogs for models, my boyfriend taking the time to design my site, and now this friend offering to help me with the PR side of things.

It also reaffirms my commitment to this project to talk to others about it and seek out their involvement and help. One of the questions the PR friend asked me was, "When you work on this project, does it feel like a chore or does it feel like play?" And the answer was obvious, it totally feels like play. I'm engaging all my creative resources and that innate desire to "make something."

Did some hot yoga this morning. Holy crap. It was great. Sometimes frustrating to not be able to do everything that I wanted to do as well as I wanted to do it. But there was a huge sense of accomplishment in completing it and knowing that you'll go back and you'll get better and better. I went with a friend who agreed to get up at the crack of dawn with me to do this before work and there was something really nice about that too. Instead of the usual - get together for a glass of wine (or 4) and bitch about what's going wrong at work, etc. we were sharing this really positive experience. Even though you don't talk during it, there's something about sharing this experience that I really liked...

Running

I went running this morning. I mean to run to my gym and then have a workout there - a little treadmill running, a little weight lifting, a little comparing myself to everyone else there and seeing how I fell short. But it was so weirdly nice out early today - purple clouds moving fast across the sky and a little humid chill in the air like right before a storm, so I ended up just going for a run in my neighborhood and then doing weights when I got home. I'm a little frustrated with my running, I wish I had more endurance, more muscle, more speed. But of course the only way to get those things is with practice. I'm going to try going for a run every morning this week. Just to see what it feels like.

I'm also trying to write every day. That's been really good so far. I've been really powering through the screenplay. I wrote 20 pages this weekend! Every once in a while I stop myself and worry, is this funny, is it good, is it too cheesy? Too emotional? Not emotional enough? But I'm trying to push that aside and get through the first draft, then I can worry about the editing. Editing while you go along only slows the process and makes you more hesitant to write anything.

My boyfriend sat down with me and showed me some things about putting my dog tees website together. We started making a page. Well, he started making it and I ooohed and ahhhed. Then he assigned me some homework - I'm going to do a drawing for the opening page. I'm really excited about this. I have an idea for combining a drawing background with an image of one of the dogs in a tee. I think it could look really stylish and interesting.

I have a real sense that things are happening and moving forward, which makes it even harder not to be able to devote all my time to this stuff. But in a way it makes the time that I do spend on these projects that more focused and driven.

Shirts are on the way!

Just got an email from my screenprinter on the west coast that my shirts are done and are on the way! I can't wait. THe deal with the shirts is this, there are three designs. Originally my ex-boyfriend, a screenprinter in Brooklyn, was printing them for me. Nice guy, not a great screenprinter. So he screwed up one of the designs and that's been holding me back from getting this thing off the ground. This was all happening as we were breaking up too, so that may have had something to do with the screw ups. As my therapist once said, "Do you think maybe this is why people don't work with their ex-boyfriends?" It was a good point... So I finally sucked it up and found another screenprinter and ordered another set of tees. They should be arriving on the 28th.

The next step is getting my website going. I have a really rudimentary website right now, but not one that I'm really proud of so I'm heitant to link to it here or really send it out at all. I have a vision for the site though, one that my boyfriend is helping me with. I was really hesitant to have him help me with this project, I felt really proprietarially about it, it was mine and mine alone. But the truth is that he's had some great ideas about it, he's really creative and really funny and also in posession of those technical skills that I'm completely lacking. We're a good pair : )

OK, one more thing, this is addressed to the bugs in my kitchen: Who are you??? Seriosuly, wtf are you?? You're not roaches, you're not ants. I just put all this boric acid down, you went away, I thought this shit was settled! Then you come back bigger? Really? That's just annoying. And can we negotiate space a little bit? I mean, my cutlery drawer? That's f-ing disgusting and you know it. There's no food in there. Seriously. Don't make me wash all my cutlery every night. It's going to make me nuts.
